Two houses around a courtyard have been renovated to make two B&B rooms with shower rooms en suite in the heart of the pretty Charente village of Villefagnan.

My offering is in a typical Charentaise village house and we pride ourselves on our ability to make your stay a happy one. Jane’s background was in hotels in the UK and within Customer Service environments and more recently a tea garden in rural Somerset.

My bed and breakfast / chambres d’hotes is situated in the village of Villefagnan. Once the main route from Paris to Spain the village is situated 10 Kms from Ruffec and the N10.

A perfect spot to explore the area or to stop over on your way down to the South of France. The Charente has the second highest number of days sunshine after the Mediterranean which is one of the things that attracted me in the first place.

This is a great region for cyclists too and we have two national routes that pass the gates.

The village itself boasts three boulangeries, a butcher, a bar and the auberge L’Etoile d’Or. Also a tabac, clothes shop, newsagent, book / gift shop and several hairdressers. We have a library, a bank and post office and there is also a small market on Tuesday and Friday mornings and a rural life museum – open at certain times in the summer. An interesting look at life in days gone by.

On the outskirts in summer you will find sunflowers abounding in July and with our own working windmill and nearby lake for activities all year round you don’t need to travel to find things to do.

After a day spent travelling or exploring the area why not park up your car or leave your bike and walk to our local restaurant for a meal and a glass or two of local wine. You may like to try the local speciality Pineau de Charentes, a fortified wine, served chilled which is made in this area.

Our breakfast is croissants and chocolatines (pain au chocolats) with a glass of juice and a choice of tea, coffee or hot chocolate. In the nicer weather you can take this outside in our courtyard or inside at our table.

There is a terrace in the garden where breakfast can be served and you can site and relax in the evening. There is also a covered area where you may prefer to take breakfast and a dining room for when the weather is inclement.

In the summer months we have a dip pool in the garden which is 3 metres in diameter and just the job for cooling down.

I am on site throughout your stay to help with anything you may need and will do everything we can to ensure you have an excellent stay. If there is anything I can do to help just let me know and I will do my utmost to oblige.

I look forward to welcoming you soon.

Jane
